Nurse Practitioner
Nurse Practitioners are specialised nurses with additional training and qualifications that means they are authorised to independently assess, diagnose, and manage patients' health conditions. They can prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, and perform procedures within their scope of practice.
At CGP the Nurse Practitioner appointments help us handle most of the emergency or ‘on the day’ needs of our patients. The NP can provide acute, short term and interim care for our patients until they can see their GP.
NP appointments are subsidised by Medicare just like GP appointments. All patients will pay an out of pocket fee for the consult.

Anaesthetics
Several of our GPs are also trained in anaesthetics and provide anaesthetic services to our local Mansfield District Hospital (MDH).
If you are having a planned procedure at MDH you may require a pre-anaesthetic appointment. These are generally organised by your surgeon's rooms in liaison with our clinic.

Skin Checks
Skin checks are routine examinations conducted by doctors to evaluate the health of your skin and detect any potential skin conditions, abnormalities, or signs of skin cancer. The primary purpose of a skin check is to identify any early warning signs of skin cancer or other skin-related issues to allow for early intervention and treatment.
All our GPs can perform skin checks. If an abnormality is discovered that requires biopsy or excision, in most cases this can be performed at our clinic with additional costs involved.

Skin Excisions
A skin excision is a medical procedure in which a section of skin or a skin lesion is surgically removed for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. GPs can perform minor skin excisions for various reasons, such as removing suspicious moles, skin tags, cysts, or other small skin growths.
Here's an overview of what to expect during a skin excision procedure at CGP:
- Initial examination: Your GP will first assess the skin lesion or growth to determine if it requires excision. They will look for any signs of malignancy or potential complications.
- Informed consent: Your GP will explain the procedure, its risks, benefits, and potential outcomes. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and give your consent for the excision.
- Local anesthesia: Before the procedure begins, the GP will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area where the skin excision will take place. This ensures you won't feel pain during the procedure.
- Excision: The GP will use a scalpel or surgical scissors to carefully cut and remove the skin lesion or growth. They will aim to remove the entire lesion, and if necessary, send it for further laboratory analysis (biopsy).
- Hemostasis: After the excision, the GP will ensure any bleeding is controlled. They may use sutures (stitches) to close the wound, or, for smaller excisions, use medical adhesive to seal the incision.
- Dressing and aftercare: Once the wound is closed, the GP will apply a sterile dressing to protect the area and promote healing. They will provide you with instructions on how to care for the wound at home, which may include keeping it clean and dry, changing dressings as needed, and avoiding certain activities that could stress the wound.
- Follow-up: Depending on the reason for the excision and the type of lesion removed, your GP may recommend a follow-up appointment to check the wound's healing progress or to discuss the biopsy results.
It's important to note that not all skin excisions are performed by GPs. Some cases may be referred to a dermatologist or a surgeon, especially if the lesion is large, complex, or requires special expertise.
Fees for skin excisions are discussed with your GP at time of consent for the procedure.
Wound Care
We provide extensive wound care services in our clinic’s Treatment Room.
Our clinical staff are training in wound assessment and care. Most wound care is delivered by our nurses with GP or NP involvement as needed.
All wound care services have a fee, depending on the size and complexity of the wound and dressing materials used.

Ear Suctioning
Ear suctioning is a medical procedure used to remove excess earwax (cerumen) or foreign objects from the ear canal. It is commonly done in cases where earwax buildup becomes problematic and affects hearing or causes discomfort. The procedure involves using a specialised instrument, such as a suction device or a curette, to gently remove the earwax or object from the ear canal.
The ear suctioning procedure is performed in our Treatment Room by our trained nurses. A GP appointment and referral is required prior to first examine the ears and ensure the procedure is necessary and appropriate.

Vaccinations
All vaccinations on the National Immunisation Program are offered at our clinic, by appointment.
We run seasonal Influenza vaccination clinics each year to help ensure mass vaccination of the community.
Please Note:
Mansfield does not have a community vaccination service so the GP clinics are the only local health services that provides childhood vaccination as per the National Immunisation Program.
We do not provide COVID vaccinations at our clinic, both local pharmacies provide this service.
Travel Medicine
All our GPs and NPs can provide travel medicine advice. Book a standard consultation to discuss your needs.
We are a Registered Yellow Fever Vaccination center.
Pathology
CGP has an onsite pathology collection service run by Clinical Labs.
Opening hours 8:30am-3:30pm (lunch break 1-1:30pm).
No appointment needed.
Health Optimisation Program (H.O.P)
Formally know as the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) the H.O.P is a model of care at CGP that allows us to proactively manage your care and help prevent and manage the burden of ageing and disease.
H.O.P appointments are with your preferred GP and a specialist nurse and last for between 30 minutes -1 hour depending on your needs.
During the appointment we will:
- Take your health measurements
- Discuss your medical issues and medications
- Provide health coaching and advice
- Refer you to other health professionals as needed
- Provide you with an ongoing plan for your care.
In most cases these appointments are Bulk Billed- so no cost to the patient.
